Atorvastatin is the generic name for the brand-name medication Lipitor. This medication reduces an enzyme responsible for cholesterol production in your liver, making it an effective treatment for high cholesterol (also known as hyperlipidemia) in combination with diet, weight loss, and exercise.

Founded in 1974, Apotex Inc. is Canada’s largest pharmaceutical maker and distributes about 300 drugs in the U.S. Apotex serves 100 countries through its range of product offerings. The number of manufacturing locations was not readily available, but at least some are located in the U.S., Mexico, and India.
