Uses of Rosuvastatin (Crestor)

Rosuvastatin is the generic form of the brand-name medication Crestor. It is used to treat high cholesterol alongside a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet and regular exercise.

It also helps reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people who have heart disease. The medication is typically taken once daily, with or without food. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking rosuvastatin because it can increase your triglyceride level and your risk for liver damage. You should also limit or avoid grapefruit because it can slow down the metabolism of rosuvastatin and increase your risk of serious side effects, including muscle damage and liver damage. Common side effects include nausea, upset stomach, and headache. Contact your doctor right away if you experience severe muscle pain, cramps, or extreme fatigue. Also, make sure to inform your doctor of all other medications (including over-the-counter drugs and supplements) you are taking in order to prevent drug interactions. This paragraph is only an overview, and it is not intended to replace medical counseling; please consult your pharmacist and/or medical provider for more comprehensive information.
